Technology Lesson Plan: Topic and Standards

Even though I am working with kindergarteners this semester, I've decided to integrate a lesson plan for a higher elementary school grade. I'm still getting to know the ins and out of a kindergarten classroom and I haven't seen how (what we would consider technology) technology is used in such low grade. Without much further ado:

Performance Objective:

Using Microsoft Word's brochure template, the fifth grade student will research a health related topic (i.e. smoking, drinking, exercise) and create a promotional pamphlet describing the dangers/benefits of their focus. The student will provide an eyecatching cover, three columns of information (one column defining their topic, one column showing dangers or benefits of their topic and one column sharing advice on how to prevent or promote their topic), at least two internet references, three related pictures and a back cover design showing their personal information.

Audience: the fifth grade student

So, for giggles I Googled 'my life as an elementary school teacher,' hoping to find something semi-interesting. What I did find was a pretty thorough introduction into the world of elementary education presented by none other than about.com. They offer all kinds of '101' information like how to start a portfolio or how to handle yourself at an interview. I immediately bookmarked this site and plan on checking it out every once in a while.

I like to consider myself somewhat of a dork when it comes to movies. That being true, it also means I'm no stranger to movie blogs. I like to keep my finger on the 'film pulse' even if no one else on Oahu seems to give a hoot. Oh well. If you're interested in some up to date movie stuffs, you could start out at these three blogs. There are a ton of movie blogs out there, but it wouldn't hurt to start with them. Give it a shot. It wont hurt. The other nice thing is that these sites also provide links to many other movie blogs. Blog. Blog.........blog. Funny word that blog is.

I'm not typically one to post comments on blogs for I don't think they're very productive. They seem to repeatedly turn into screaming contests or the posters try to outwit each other.

You know what. Strike that. I was reading the comments at this movie blog and found the comments to be pretty well informed. Are the flames wars being brushed aside for intellectual content? Let's hope so.
